When did you become a fan of horror and why?
I became a fan of horror at pretty young age, I think like 9 or 10? my mom was pretty cool with the idea that I loved to watch movies, & she knew I was smart enough to know they were fake! So she let me watch my first horror flick which was Poltergeist! Loved it! Loved that scary suspenseful feeling you got inside your body from watching a horror movie! I love the F/X! then it was pretty much horror movies there on out!
How did you get into art and are you self taught or did you go to school?
I got into art about 3rd grade! Mom bought me a bunch of comics from a yard sale, and I just wanted to draw! I started drawing all the time! And whenever I watched a horror movie, I’d pick up a pencil and start drawing things from the movie I just watched. By fifth grade it came pretty clear I had some talent in art & if I continued practicing I’d definitely have the potential to be an artist! I’m self taught, no schooling except what you do in grade school😄
You create numerous works of horror, what’s your favourite medium and materials to use?
My new favorite right now are these postal stickers I’ve been doing, Nicknamed “Slaps” you can get them for free at the post office and it is legal to get them and do art on them! But then if people do so and “slap”(stick) them on something out there in the world! Then it does become illegal, do to the fact it’s considered graffiti! So right know I’m enjoying the slap phase I’m in right now! Before the postal sticker phase😁 I used Bristol paper, I always use Micron pens, a black Sharpie and love & use Copic markers, sometimes with a mix of Prismacolor markers, Once in a while some Prismacolored Pencils will come into play for a little detail! Oh and a Jellyroll white pen! fantastic for details and little tricks for your pics here and there! Colored Sharpies are alright sometimes, but rare!
Who is your favourite character to use?
I don’t know if I truly have a favorite character to use! But honestly I’ve drawn Freddy more then anybody😁
What’s your favourite piece of work that you have created?
One of my favorite pics I created was a pic of Sid Haig, because I was working a Mad Monster party and told him I drew a pic of him, he asked to see it? I was like ya! So I grabbed it & showed him he said fantastic! Put it on the table and autographed it! Looked up at me & then said oh sorry was that ok?😂 of corse it’s ok! Thank you I said! Really appreciate it!! That became one of my favorite pics now!
Have you got any upcoming exhibitions coming up?
Anything up coming as of now? No unfortunately! I think I’m done until 2017, then the new year I have some plans, but have to figure out the dates!😬😁
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m working on right now old horror movie posters! Recreating them has been fun and different! They were really neat and I think people just forgot or don’t even know about them! Trying to bring some light to that! It’s been a good challenge and different from just drawing up Freddy, Jason, etc..
What’s your favourite scary movie?
Favorite scary movie!! That’s the hardest question to ask a major Horror movie Fan!😂 I’d have to say Exorcist, no matter how many times I’ve seen it! There a just some scenes that are just still scary!
